R-6501 Installation Instructions
Installing crash rated bollard using threaded anchor in new concrete
Protect your crash rated bollards while enhancing their aesthetic appearance. Metal decorative bollard covers add a sleek, contemporary design element to crash rated bollards. In this installation method, decorative bollard covers are installed using threaded anchor secured into new concrete inside the crash rated bollards. Please note that this method is only usable for steel crash rated bollards without any pre-existing fill.
It is important to note that Reliance Foundry’s bollard covers are primarily decorative. Adding bollard covers to crash rated bollards will not affect impact resistance. The level of impact resistance is directly related to the original installation.

NOTE
- To protect the finish, keep bollards in original packaging until the exact moment of installation.
- Handle with care to avoid scratching or damaging bollard surfaces as abrasions will lead to rust.
- Once scratched, bollards cannot be repaired to original form without re-finishing the entire surface.
- Consult your electrician to install the electrical conduit to power the bollard.
Before installation
Study the site plans
Site plans are generally created by the architect of the project.
The architect will mark the intended location of each bollard on the plan.
Ensure that the plan coincides with the site and familiarize yourself with the intended arrangement of the bollards.
Prepare the site for concrete
Please consult your local Building Code Department to determine the recommended digging depth below the frost line in your area.
Install the crash rated bollard
Install a new crash rated bollard. Follow the installation guide of the crash rated bollard for installation.
Do not fill the pipe of the crash rated bollard with concrete.
Hold a level vertically against the side of the crash rated bollard and ensure that it is plumb. If the bollard post is not plumb, it may need to be reinstalled, or the cover will not sit properly.
Note:
- Any damage or tilting of the crash rated bollard can affect the performance of the bollard cover.
- Consult your electrician to install the electrical conduit to power the bollard.
- For bollard posts smaller than 6" - Install conduit outside the post
- For bollard posts larger than 6" - Install conduit inside the post
Clean and dry the crash rated bollard
Brush or wipe the surface of the bollard. Debris can offset measurements and the placement of the bollard cover.
Fill the bollard pipe with concrete
Mix the concrete. Ensure that the proper ratio of water and concrete mix is used. The concrete should have a similar texture to moldable clay.
Using a shovel, fill the bollard pipe with concrete.
Create a flat surface at the top of the bollard pipe.
Clean the surface of the bollard pipe
Use a cloth to clean off any residue, dust, or debris.
Install the bollard cover
Prepare the bollard cover for installation
Keep the bollard cover in its protective packaging and place near the installation site.
When ready to install, remove the protective packaging.
Lower the threaded anchor
Push the threaded anchor into the concrete down the center of the bollard pipe.
Flush the bottom flat surface of the threaded anchor with the top flat end of the bollard pipe.
Check that the threaded anchor is centered and ensure it is plumb.
Allow the concrete to cure
A minimum of 2–3 days should be given for concrete to cure before beginning construction projects on new concrete surfaces.
Note: Moisture in the environment and cool temperatures can significantly slow the process
Place the bollard cover over the crash rated bollard
Lift the bollard cover and carefully lower it over the crash rated bollard and threaded anchor.
Ensure the crash rated bollard is centered in the bollard cover’s shaft and the bollard cover is plumb.
Note: Metal bollard covers can be heavy—to prevent accidents and injuries, ensure the proper resources are available to lift bollard covers into place or onto their mountings.
Measure the total distance from the surface grade to the top of the threaded anchor. Ensure that this total distance does not exceed the maximum height of the bollard cover from the bottom surface to the top of the threaded anchor in the product drawing.
Note: Refer to product drawings to determine specific measurements of bar height.
Add bottom gasket
Add the bottom gasket on the bollard.

Inspect
Inspect the installation
From a distance, examine the plane of view.
Ensure the decorative cover is plumb.
Check the bollard for any signs of surface damage
Abrasions should be covered as soon as possible to prevent rust and ensure the proper life of the decorative cover. For damage repair or other servicing needs, please contact Reliance Foundry’s sales department.
