Installing Bike Racks with Embedded Mountings
Embedded mountings allow Reliance Foundry’s commercial bike racks to be easily installed in new concrete surfaces. The permanent mountings provide secure bicycle storage, and create architectural perimeters. Bike racks come in standard powder coating and stainless steel finishes to complement various building and landscape designs. It is important to note that with this installation method, bike racks will provide limited impact resistance.

NOTE
- To protect the finish, keep bike racks in original packaging until the exact moment of installation.
- Handle with care to avoid scratching or damaging bike rack surfaces as abrasions will lead to rust.
- Once scratched, bike racks cannot be repaired to original form without re-finishing the entire surface.
Before installation
Study the site plans
Site plans are generally created by the architect of the project.
Refer to site plans to locate the precise center points of the two bases on the bike rack.
Ensure that the plan coincides with the site and familiarize yourself with the intended arrangement of the bike racks.
Check for hazards
Always check for hazards such as water pipes, gas lines, and underground wiring before digging.
Prepare the site for concrete
Please consult your local Building Code Department to determine the frost line in your area.
Dig below the frost line; the new concrete footing must reach beyond this frost line.
Note: If the frost line is less than 12″ below surface level, dig to a minimum depth of 12″. This is recommended in order to create stability.
The diameter of each hole should extend to a minimum of 8″.
Center the auger on the installation marks and bore holes to the required depth and diameter.
In the event that the two holes are very close together, combine them and dig one large hole for embedding.
Note: This will be up to the installer’s judgement based on the diameter of each hole and the distance between them. Models R-8212 and R-8212-SS are more likely to require a combined hole.
Ensure the area is properly formed to create a perimeter that will hold wet concrete.
Use a dirt tamper to compact the soil below the intended surface.
Prepare the bike rack for designated location
Keep the bike rack in its protective packaging.
Carefully place the bike rack near the installation position.
Pour the concrete
Mix the concrete
Ensure that the proper ratio of water and concrete mix is used.
The concrete should have a similar texture to moldable clay.
Place the bike rack in designated location
When ready to install, remove the protective packaging.
Lower the bike rack into the designated location by placing the bike rack embedments into each hole. Ensure the bike rack embedments are centered.
If there is only one bored hole, lower both bike rack embedments into the one hole. Ensure the bike rack is centered.
Pour the concrete
Take care to pour the concrete evenly, ensuring the surface is level.
Hold a level against the side of the bike rack and ensure that it remains plumb to the surface.
Note: Once the concrete has cured, there will be no way to make any adjustments.
Inspect
Inspect the installation
From a distance, examine the plane of view.
Ensure the bike rack is plumb to the surface, and the surface is flat.
Check the bike rack for any signs of surface damage
Abrasions should be covered as soon as possible to prevent rust and ensure the proper life of the bollard. For damage repair or other servicing needs, please contact Reliance Foundry’s sales department.
