Installing Stainless Steel Bollard Covers with a J Hanger
Protect your pipe bollards while enhancing their aesthetic appearance. Bollard covers add a sleek, contemporary design element to pre-installed pipe bollards. Bollard covers are made of high-quality 316 grade stainless steel for the best corrosion resistance—even in high-saline environments.
In this installation method, a J hanger is used to secure the bollard cover into new concrete inside the pre-installed pipe bollard. Please ensure that the pipe bollard does not have any pre-existing concrete fill before proceeding.
It is important to note that Reliance Foundry's bollard covers are primarily decorative. Adding bollard covers to existing pipe bollards will not affect impact resistance. The level of impact resistance is directly related to the original installation.

To protect the finish, keep bollard covers in original packaging until the exact moment of installation.
Handle with care to avoid scratching or damaging bollard cover surfaces as abrasions will lead to rust.
Inspect the pipe bollard
Examine the pre-installed pipe bollard for signs of damage. Any rust should be removed, and abrasions should be covered as soon as possible. If the damage is beyond repair, a new pipe bollard may need to be installed.
Ensure the pipe bollard does not have any pre-existing concrete fill. Hold a level vertically against the side of the pipe bollard and ensure that it is plumb.
Note: Any damage or tilting of the pipe bollard can affect the performance of the bollard cover.
Clean and dry the pipe bollard
Brush or wipe the surface of the pipe bollard. Debris can offset measurements and the placement of the bollard cover.
Prepare the bollard cover for installation
Keep the bollard cover in its protective packaging and place near the installation site.
When ready to install, remove the protective packaging.
Three set screws are already installed in the bottom holes of the bollard cover. You will need to partly unscrew them to allow room for the pipe bollard to fit inside.
Install the bollard cover
Fill the pipe bollard with concrete
Mix the concrete. Ensure that the proper ratio of water and concrete mix is used. The concrete should have a similar texture to moldable clay.
Using a shovel, fill the pipe bollard with concrete. Create a flat surface at the top of the pipe bollard.
Lower the bollard cover over the pipe bollard. Push the J hanger into the wet concrete through the center of the pipe bollard.
Use a level to ensure that the bollard cover is plumb and make any necessary adjustments.
Secure the bollard cover
Secure the bollard cover onto the pipe bollard
Tighten the set screws at the bottom of the bollard cover using equal torque. Use a level throughout the process to ensure that the bollard cover is plumb.
Move from screw to screw when tightening until the bollard cover is secure.
Clean the bollard cover
Clean the surface of the bollard cover
Use a cloth to clean off any residue, dust, or debris.
Allow the concrete to cure
A minimum of 2–3 days should be given for concrete to cure before beginning construction projects on new concrete surfaces.
*Note that moisture in the environment and cool temperatures can significantly slow the process.
Inspect the installation
From a distance, examine the plane of view.
Ensure the bollard is plumb.
Check the bollard for any signs of surface damage
Abrasions should be covered as soon as possible to prevent rust and ensure the proper life of the bollard. For damage repair or other servicing needs, please contact Reliance Foundry’s sales department.
