What are post covers?
Metal post covers are devices that are used to protect and beautify steel pipe bollards and security posts. They offer differing levels of ornamentation and are available in wide array of designs. From industrial to ornate, metal post covers feature styles that add aesthetic value otherwise drab security barriers. But, metal post covers don’t just add ornamentation to security bollards, they also protect them from the elements. Metal post covers often feature a powder-coated finish or a stainless steel composition that offers a greater level of durability than the painted surfaces that are traditionally used to protect security posts. Because metal post covers have a more resilient surface, they will prolong the service lives of steel pipe bollards and reduce the need for costly maintenance and painting.
Stainless Steel Post Covers
Stainless steel post covers feature a functional design that works well with contemporary architecture. They are constructed in a shape that is similar to that of the security posts they protect and they feature a domed cap. Some models will also feature annular rings that add ornamentation to the top section of the cover. Stainless steel post covers are most often created from 304 grade stainless steel. This grade provides a level of weather-resistant protection that is suitable for most North American environments. To provide additional resiliency, many models are also treated to passivation during production. This treatment helps to prevent rust and oxidization. Stainless steel post covers can be installed in four standard ways. They can be placed over a security post and filled with spray foam insulation to secure their position or they can be held in place with tamper resistant set screws. Some models feature a flanged base that allows the cover to be surface-mounted over the post while some models feature a cap with an interior hanger that allows the cover to be set in the concrete interior of the security post. Stainless steel post covers are easy to maintain and are often specified for use in coastal environments.
Decorative Iron Post Covers
Decorative iron post covers are designed to look like traditional or historic bollards. Iron allows a great deal of ornamentation to be worked into the cover’s design and for this reason iron covers are often selected for refined architectural schemes. High quality iron post covers are created from a material known as ductile iron. It is a material that is notably stringer and more durable than standard (or gray) iron. It also offers a high degree of elasticity that makes the covers more forgiving of physical abuse. Because iron is susceptible to rust and oxidization, decorative iron post covers must be treated with a protective coating. Often, appropriate level of protection is achieved by applying a powder-coating to the bollard covers. It protects the iron from rust and can be applied in a number of different colours to match a site’s architecture. Decorative iron post covers can be installed in several different ways, depending on how they are constructed. Some models feature a flanged base that allows them to be placed over a security post and surface-mounted. Most models, however, are constructed in two parts – a shaft and a cap. The shaft can be placed over a security post and mounted, with a nut, to a threaded rod that is set in the concrete of the interior post. The cap is then secured to the shaft and over the post with set screws. Decorative iron post covers protect steel pipe bollards and can be easily maintained. They transform steel pipe bollards and security posts into historically-styled architectural highlights.
Steel Post Covers
Steel post covers feature practical designs that increase the aesthetic value of security posts without the use of elaborate ornamentation. They are often installed over steel pipe bollards in parking lots and over security bollards at storefronts. Steel is a fairly durable material that is less prone to crack than other materials that are commonly used to create bollards. Because steel is susceptible to rust and oxidization, it is generally finished with either paint or powder-coating. When treated with a weather -resistant finish, steel post covers offer a level of resiliency that is suitable for typical North American climates. Steel post covers are generally made up of two separate pieces – a shaft and a cap. They are installed in the same manner as decorative iron post covers. The cover’s shaft is placed over a security post and mounted, with a nut, to a threaded rod that is set in the concrete of the interior post. The rod can be set in the interior of the post when the concrete is poured or afterwards with a rotary hammer and an adhesive anchor. Steel post covers offer worry-free durability and can be easily cleaned with hose water. They extend the service lives of steel pipe bollards and security posts while increasing their aesthetic value.
